Just Say Amen!

On Sunday I entered church with an expectancy to hear a message that would stir my heart and yield vigor for the natural and spiritual assignments of the ensuing week. Pastor Butler passionately read 2 Corinthians 1:15-24, then he repeated verse 20, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” So often we hear Believers casually speak of the promises of God as “yes and amen” but I have learned this isn't accurate. In this text God isn't saying "amen” to himself. The issue is that we must respond to what God has spoken. All of God's promises have been underwritten with a divine “yes”. The prophet Isaiah said that when God sends forth His word, it has action similar to an arrow. When we speak it in faith the word goes to the target and doesn't return, or fall to the ground (Isaiah 55:11). By accepting this truth, the natural response is to agree with God and say “amen”.

If you take time to examine this text you will find that Paul encouraged the Corinthians to be a witness of the comfort the Lord brings when we need it. Given what Paul endured, he wanted them to know the reality that all Christians would face challenges but their faith in God had to be relentless. Paul and Timothy accepted that if God said it, they believed it. They knew that God promised to be their protection and deliverer. Imagine God saying to them, “Yes, Paul, I am your shield. Yes, I am your deliverer. Yes, I am your confidence. Yes, I am yours. Yes, I am your exceeding great reward.” Paul and Timothy remained steadfast in what they knew about God even under the worse conditions. Despite their condition, the confession remained a faith-filled “amen”.

Embrace the opportunity to demonstrate your faith in what the Lord has promised you. Rather than mull over doubt, fear, and unbelief, be decided that God’s “yes” means the same as your “amen”. Meditate on the promise, pray what the Scripture says, use your legal authority by using the name of Jesus, then declare “Amen. Amen!” It is so.

I encourage you today that in every situation God has given you a promise.

He won’t change His mind about it. Just say “amen”.
